David Silva, one of the best players of his generation in Spain, has announced the end of his career.

The 37-year-old Spaniard suffered an anterior knee ligament injury during pre-season with Real Sociedad. As a result, he was forced to take this decision.

Such an injury would take 7-9 months to fully heal and the veteran's last contract runs until the end of 2023-24.

D. Silva achieved a fantastic result with Real Sociedad last season, finishing fourth in Spain. The Basques will return to the Champions League after 10 years.

During his career, the attacking midfielder has represented Valencia, Eibar, Celta Vigo and Manchester City.

With Manchester City, Silva won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups.
